The mission of The Long Beach Yacht Club is to promote sailing and yachting on a world-class level, while providing its members with an upscale private club experience. The Club’s premier waterfront location, yachting assets, facilities and programs make it the first choice for its families’ social and recreational enjoyment.

Situated in a prime location in Alamitos Bay and nestled on the Southern California coast on the border of Los Angeles and Orange counties, The Long Beach Yacht Club is committed to creating a place members want to be by blending a friendly social environment with a variety of programs in which members and their families may participate with pride and enthusiasm.

Membership of The Long Beach Yacht Club currently stands at over 1,000 members and their families. The Club’s leadership consists of the elected Flag Officers, a Board of Directors and a Board of Governors. The full-service Club offers staffed food and beverage service six days per week. Members thrive on a broad range of activities, including racing, yachting, fishing, swimming and social activities geared for adults and driven by member committees, its “clubs within the Club” and swim and sailing calendar. Youth programs are very active and staffed to operate throughout the year, providing a solid learning and team-building environment for the next generation.

Members have access to The Long Beach Yacht Club as both a sporting and social venue and are encouraged to make the most of their membership by becoming involved in Club activities and utilizing the Club facilities, programs and services.

Position Overview

The General Manager is the principal operations executive, managing all aspects of the club’s services and its facility. This includes activities and relations between the club and its officers, Board of Directors, members, guests, employees, community, government and industry. The General Manager is responsible for coordinating and administering the club’s policies as defined by its Board of Directors and officers and working with the Board of Directors to develop operating policies, procedures, programs and services. The General Manager is also responsible for coordinating the development, implementation and monitoring of the club’s overall budget, annual operating plans and programs. Additionally, the General Manager is responsible for ensuring maximum member and guest satisfaction by consistently monitoring and enhancing the quality of the club’s programs and services.

Responsibilities

The General Manager is employed by the Board of Directors and reports to the Commodore, directly supporting the Club’s governance team, its committees and elected and appointed officers.

The General Manager is responsible for operational planning and day-to-day Club administration, oversight and direction of facilities operations; food and beverage services; member services, including technology and communications; waterfront programs and asset management. Labor relations and employee benefits, risk management and community relations are also direct responsibilities of the General Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

• A strong aptitude and preference for goal setting, data-driven decision making and continuous improvement.
• Ability to meld in with the club culture while developing and ensuring quality relationships between union/non-union staff and Club members.
• A creative and innovative executive who can lead, motivate and implement a shared vision within a union environment.
• Has a demonstrated ability to enhance systems, operational performance and manage operations by leading by example and utilizing a hands-on approach to set expectations and ensure accountability across the organization.
• Has the knowledge and professional ability to lead and support governance and its committees to ensure delivery of the mission, vision, brand strategy and goals of the club.
• Has excellent technology, communication and presentation skills and uses these skills to ensure the governance team, members and staff are fully informed on the operations of the club.
• Must have a proven history of experience in like positions, regatta and/or yacht club management experience highly desirable.
• Management and technical expertise to develop strategic initiatives, execute plans and administer the multiple responsibilities of the position.

Additionally, successful candidates should possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Hospitality Management or a similar field preferred.
• Private club or hospitality industry experience with management and supervisory experience and progressive professional advancement.
• Previous experience in management of a club comparable in scope and disciplines to Long Beach Yacht Club.
• Experience as a yacht/maritime Club Manager or Assistant General Manager preferred.
• Experience managing capital projects.
• Demonstrated knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements as they apply to private club operations.
• Knowledge of current insurance and risk management programs for private clubs.
• Knowledge of current human resource practices and union labor requirements.
• The ability and eagerness to speak publicly at meetings and events.
• A CMAA Certified Club Manager designation or working toward this designation is highly preferred.

• Base compensation range of $250,000–$290,000
